It all began in the early 1930s in Egypt. There, the Capsis family founded the first Capsis Hotel, the Capsis House Egypt. Thirty years later, Thanos and Marika Capsis, came to Greece and created one of the top hotel chains, the Capsis Hotels Chain. It started in Heraklion, Crete with the Capsis Astoria Heraklion at Eleftherias Square in 1966 and then with the Capsis Hotel in Thessaloniki in Monastiriou Street in 1970.
Along with the “Capsis Beach Hotel and Bungalows” in Agia Pelagia Crete, the "Metropolitan Capsis Hotel and Apartments" in Rhodes Island and the “Esperia Capsis Hotel” in Athens, Thanos and Marika contributed greatly to the history of Greek tourism and Greek hospitality. Their contribution has been world known since Capsis Hotels hosted inter-Balkan meetings, welcomed many Saudi Arabian princes and powerful state leaders of that time and all the social and political life of the whole country.

In 1986 Marika Capsis passed away leaving behind a huge legacy to her daughters Lena and Dia Capsis. A separation followed leaving Dia with the operation of the hotels in Agia Pelagia and Rhodes island and Lena with Capsis Astoria in Heraklion and Capsis Hotel in Thessaloniki. Lena Capsis, now president of the Capsis Hotels - Thessaloniki & Heraklion continuing with innovative spirit and optimistic vision, has worked hard to achieve all the objectives and managed to leave her own mark in the history of modern Greek tourism industry and Greek hospitality. The Capsis Astoria Heraklion continued to provide luxury accommodation in the heart of the city of Heraklion and to date it is a landmark in the cap it al of Crete. The Capsis Hotel Thessaloniki owned 50% until the early 1990s by the Vardas family, after having been completely bought by Lena Capsis, underent a complete renovation transforming it from second class to first class hotel and until today remains the largest city hotel in northern Greece and one of the largest convention centres.
In the late 1990s, with a continuous innovation spirit, Lena Capsis founded the Bristol Hotel in Ladadika Street in Thessaloniki, the first Boutique Hotel in Thessaloniki.

Today Irini Manousou, daughter of Lena Capsis operates this unit and the Bristol Hotel remains one of the most luxurious hotels in Thessaloniki.
Capsis Hotels have also been known for the famous clubs, operating in the hotels. The old remember and the new... experience! Now the Pool Bars RoofTop Piscina in Capsis Hotel Thessaloniki and Rooftop Astoria in Capsis Astoria Heraklion are well-known for the entertainment and leisure during the summer season.
Today the Capsis Hotel Chain of Lena Capsis has passed to the third generation. With her daughters Anna Maria Patronikola and Ioanna Manousou together with Elias Christodoulakis, both hotels continue to look into the future, preserving the principles of hospitality and service, continuing with the same vision and the same philosophy, ensuring full respect of the values and principles of the Capsis family whilst evolving.
The 21st century finds Capsis Hotels on a new path. They are evolving into Art and Cultural Hotels. Now the new generation of the Capsis family is transforming the hotels into some interesting gallery halls of art and expression. Artists and art lovers have enhanced our facilities with amazing artworks. Major events of art and culture are taking place in the hotels, bringing people from around the world together.
